Salem-Keizer Athletics Update, Nov. 18, 2020
Oregon Governor Kate Brown announced a statewide two-week freeze on activities to help slow the spread of rapidly increasing coronavirus cases, impacting communities across the state. This took effect Nov. 18, 2020.
After additional guidance from the Oregon Health Authority (OHA), the Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA) announced the suspension of all indoor extracurricular activities, while allowing some instances of outdoor activities. However, with the exponential rise of COVID-19 cases in Marion County, the previous decision to suspend all SKPS extracurricular activities will remain through the freeze.
Although this was a difficult decision, ultimately, this two-week freeze will allow our students to focus on their academics at the start of the second quarter while helping to support the health and safety of the Salem-Keizer community.
The suspension of activities for our district will continue until at least Dec. 2, with additional updates on the status of our extracurricular activities through the end of the statewide freeze.
Meanwhile, SKPS is committed to resuming athletic activities as soon as the metrics improve and/or when we can safely.
Thank you for your patience during this crucial time for all of us.
